Note on back states "rig driven by Miss Scott of Philadelphia, passengers Miss Montieth, Mrs. Douglas and Miss Gates.".PhotographerunknownLocationColorado Springs (Colo.)SubjectParadesWomenFlower CarnivalHorse-drawn vehiclesNotes The Colorado Springs Gazette newspaper of Friday, 23 August 1894 reported that on Thursday 25,000 people attended the parade with two miles of decorated vehicles and described this parade participant stating, "The rig that bore close inspection better than a great many and looked equally well at a distance was the one driven by Miss Scott of Philadelphia. Why it did not get a prize is a question that the judges must settle with their own consciences. The wheels were trimmed with sweet peas in heart designs and the same plan was followed out on the body of the vehicle. The ladies carried heart shaped fans trimmed with the fragrant peas. In the center rose a tall Maypole, trimmed in pink and white. Besides the peas, mountain sage and dahlias were very tastefully used. The ladies were dressed to match. They were, besides Miss Scott, Miss Monteith, Mrs. Douglas and Miss Annie Oates."
