George Moffet White was born November 10, 1904 in Osborn, Missouri and moved with his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1920. He worked as an accountant for many years, but was known by his many friends and associates as a true historian of the Pikes Peak region. In the 1930s, he began hiking through the mountains taking photographs of old cabins, lodges and mining sites. White was a founding member of the Ghost Town Club, a group of scholars and enthusiasts interest in exploring and promoting topics of historical interest. He was also a founding member of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society, another group of scholars and enthusiasts who promote and disseminate knowledge of the earth sciences, especially as they relate to mineralogy, lapidary, and fossils. George White died December 4, 2002 in Colorado Springs.
